Truth
In the West, epistemology has been understood as the branch of philosophy that deals with the pursuit of knowledge, which was historically understood as justified, true belief (i.e., truth). I understand the contemporary understanding of epistemology to be much broader, replacing the pursuit of "justified, true belief" with other, less certain ends such as warranted belief (e.g., in the sciences) or constructed meaning or cultural belief (e.g., in the humanities and education).
